The range works or the evening does not

Ignition, oven control, induction and ventilation, repaired in city kitchens where the appliance rarely comes out easily. A flat $95 service call covers the visit and the full diagnosis, and it comes off the repair once you approve it.

What we commit to, and nothing we cannot

  • Cooking equipment only

Ranges, ovens, cooktops and ventilation. Refrigeration and laundry go to somebody else, and we will say so on the phone.

  • A flat $95 call

The visit and the full diagnosis. Credited against the repair the moment you approve it.

  • Gas handled properly

Manifold pressure read hot and cold on every gas call, and the appliance is left leak-checked and lit.

  • Factory-approved parts

Igniters, spark modules, sensors, elements and blower motors ordered against the model on the rating plate.

What customers said

A rattle from the blower housing at the higher speeds was driving us mad. The blower wheel had lost a balance weight. Replaced, then he rebalanced and tightened the whole assembly.

Convection roast was browning one side of the tray and leaving the other pale. The convection motor was running slow on a tired capacitor. New motor, and the difference was obvious that night.

Ticking from the spark module carried on long after the flame was up. Moisture had got into a switch under one knob. Dried, sealed and replaced. A quiet kitchen again, which my neighbours appreciate.

How a visit runs

Description, measurement, number

  1. Pliers, screwdrivers, a nut driver and a wire brush laid out on a cloth with hinge brackets and loose screws

    The description

Model number from the plate behind the kick panel or inside the door, and what the appliance is doing in plain words. Ignition faults in particular are half-solved before the van moves.

  2. A nut driver, screwdriver, bracket, washers, pliers and a brush set out in a row on a cloth

    The measurements

Manifold pressure at the regulator, spark and flame sense burner by burner, cavity temperature against the set point through a full preheat, element and sensor resistance, blower draw at every speed.

  3. Brackets, bolts, a nut driver, red-handled screwdrivers, pliers and a wire brush laid out on a burlap cloth

    The number

Parts and labour quoted as one figure before anything is dismantled, with the service call credited against it. If the repair is not worth doing, that gets said out loud.

Notes from the workshop

What a fault usually turns out to be, what to check before ringing anybody, and the point where a gas appliance stops being a job to take on yourself.

Tell us what it is doing

The model number and a plain description of the fault are usually enough for a straight answer on the phone. If it needs a visit, the $95 service call covers the diagnosis and comes off the repair.
